Awesome! Yeah I went back to Lothlorean where I built this cattail shelter just a few weeks ago. Not sure exactly why but from what I understand someone got mad about the shelter and tried to tear it down. Amazingly not only did the cattail shelter survive the winter but it also survived someones attempt to rip it down. From the wreckage it looked like the dude (I'll leave names out of it) grabbed at few mats and managed to take one or two mats down then gave up. It's really amazing how strong these shelters are. 70 mph winds and many feet of snow was not a problem. It's a difficult undertaking for a single person though.
I would defiantly like to meet up sometime, I've got a moose hyde and a used tipi (no poles) my uncle gave me that I need to do something with...thinking about making some moccasins.

Aaron,

I had no idea you had pursued this project. Way to go! Fabulous. Thanks for the blurb about Piankeshaw and me. I saw the picture earlier this evening of the cattail mats and just grabbed it and went on. For some strange reason, I just now saw my name associated with yours and wanted to see what that was. That's how I stumbled across your website. I like this sophisticated reply segment and the info was great. I have the same information on making mats that you referenced and only realized it when I saw it in print. I haven't read throuogh it in years. Hope to meet up with you sometime.

Keep on sewing those mats! More later. I am done for the day.
